Ocular Prosthesis

Custom Artificial eyes

The loss of an eye, or any part of the face in most cases will cause extreme apprehension and disbelief to the person involved. However, with the techniques and material available today, these problems are readily solved both physically and the physiologically.

Fitting the Prosthetic Eye(Artificial Eye) begins with our Ocularist making an impression mold of your eye socket or residual eye. This procedure assures each patient the maximum amount of comfort and possible movement.

Our Ocularists have developed advanced art and sculpting techniques to recreate the most lifelike appearance.

Every effort will be made to maximize the amount of movement and to create an exact color match. We use only earth pigments in our Prostheses, which provides fine detail, depth of color, and vibrancy for many years. Our dedication and team approach with you and your referring physicians assures the highest level of care.

Scleral Shell Prosthesis

A Scleral Shell Prosthesis is a thin hard acrylic shell-like artificial eye which is designed to be worn over a discolored and/or disfigured eye. It covers the entire surface of the cosmetically blemished eye, restoring a natural appearance. There is no surgery involved in obtaining a Scleral Shell Prosthesis, just a few visits to our office.

Our focus in the fitting process is to provide you with a natural appearance by making an exact color match and by maximizing movement of the Prosthesis.

Our Ocularists are trained to manage each patient’s unique condition to enable them to maximize wearing time of the Prothesis. We help our new patients on an individual basis by developing a daily schedule of progressive wearing time to gradually increase the Prosthesis usage. Most patients with a moderately shrunken eye, called a “Phthisical eye”, are able to wear their Prosthesis continually, even when sleeping.

Patients will be expertly trained by our Ocularists to insert and remove their shell and are given easy instructions on care and maintenance.
